In Karachi, there are several authorities that have the authority to approve layout plans and building plans. In Karachi, there are six Cantonment areas, namely Manora Cantt, Karachi Cantt, Clifton Cantt, Korangi Cantt, Faisal Cantt, and Malir Cantt, working under the Military Estate Office, Karachi region, and approving Layout Plans, subdivision Plans, Amalgamation plans, changes of Land Use, and approval of Proposed buildings as per the Cantonment Act for their own jurisdictions.
Sindh Building Control Authority is the mega entity of Sindh, having its Director General’s office at the Karachi regional office on the 1st floor of the SBCA Building, Civic Centre, Karachi. SBCA is working under the Karachi Building and Town Planning Regulation 2002, which was recently amended in 2019. SBCA is further divided into two entities:
KBCA has the domain to approve Building Plans as Architectural plans, Town planning plans, Structural designs, Revised Building plans, and NOCs for Sale for Public Sale projects.
Master Plan Department Working under the D.G Sindh Building Authority, it has the domain of approval of layout plans, subdivision plans, Amalgamation plans, and changes of Land Use.

The Pakistan Defence Officers Housing Authority has the responsibility of approving building plans for DHA Phases 1–8, as per DHA Bye Laws.
